#RewindWithOIAA- Throwback With Goedgedacht Trust
For Seokjin’s birthday last 2020, we supported Goedgedacht Trust, a non-profit organization that runs programs for children in disadvantaged rural communities in the West Coast region of the Western Cape, South Africa. Goedgedacht Trust has organized projects to help in nurturing kids in their early days, preparing them for school, and making sure that they stay in it.
The organization’s work focuses on early intervention in children’s lives, preferably during the first 1,000 days. Goedgedacht Trust organizes projects to build on individual potential so that kids can enter the world as skilled people who are able to take up leadership roles in their own communities, breaking the damaging cycle of generational poverty.
To support their cause, over 976 ARMY came together and raised $22,763. The funds will be used by Goedgedacht Trust to help young people overcome hurdles, break the pattern of generational poverty, and work towards long-term sustenance for a life of fulfillment.
As we revisit all the organizations we have worked with in the past 12 months for our third anniversary, we decided to ask them a few questions. Let's check out what Goedgedacht Trust has to say:
Updates On The Programs And New Developments
Our Path Onto Prosperity (POP) program is our flagship programme, which is the vehicle through which we implement a variety of initiatives and projects, in order to help poor rural children escape the cycle of poverty. Our program therefore has not changed, but we had to review and change the way in which we carry out our activities, in light of lockdown regulations.
Organization's Fund Allocation Plan
We are gradually returning to the new normal of doing things, all activities subject to lockdown regulations, where our focus will be on helping disadvantaged rural children deal with bereavement and grief, which are direct consequences of the devastating effects of the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic. We are most excited about helping our children to see the fun in things again, to be optimistic about their future and to help them believe in the real possibility of a better, happier, and healthier future.
The Impact Of Pandemic On The Organization's Operations
2020 was shattering for everyone, especially for those who are already disadvantaged.
Many rural families have been suffering since our lockdown started in March 2020, as in many cases the only breadwinner lost his/her job. The government grants which they basically live off, keep them afloat for up to a week or half, so the daily battle to provide food for their families continues. In times like these it is the children who suffer the most. Because all of our
activities are taking place within poor rural villages, amongst the communities, we have been severely restricted in the way we have been able to reach the communities. We are therefore very glad to report that we were able to resume our feeding schemes in the villages on 1 February 2021, to ensure that the children are well-nourished and able to learn.
The Impact Of OIAA Campaign On The Organization
Yes absolutely! We were able to open our Baby Unit, which would not have been possible without the ARMYs' support. This is a huge achievement, because we are now able to provide a safe space to 15 vulnerable babies every day.
Do You Know BTS?
Not all of Goedgedacht staff were familiar with BTS, but as all of us were so deeply touched and overwhelmed by the support from the BTS ARMYs, even our Managing Director has become a huge fan of the BTS band!
