#RewindWithOIAA: Throwback With Global Foodbanking Network

In 2020, One In An ARMY celebrated BTS’ 7th Anniversary with a one of a kind campaign. Bringing over 90+ fanbases together, we launched a fundraising drive and a 7-part project spanning two months (May-June).

The 7-part project comprised of a Freerice challenge with #AnpanVanARMY, weekly scavenger hunts with #FindMeBTS, an online class project with #Learn_WithARMY, a donation drive to donate blood, hair and voice with #AnpanARMYDrive, #GiveALittleLoveDrive to donate essential items to orphanages, senior centers and other facilities and #LettersWithLuv drive to send letters to orphanages, seniors, people staying in hospitals, and healthcare workers on the front line. Post-consultation with partner fanbases and conducting a poll for ARMY, OIAA launched a fundraising campaign in support of Global Food Banking Network (GFBN). The organization’s aim is

“to alleviate global hunger by collaborating to develop food banks in communities where they are needed and by supporting food banks where they exist.”

Towards the end of the campaign, 270 ARMY from across the globe raised $7770 which would help provide 41,550 meals to food banks around the world.

As we revisit all the organizations we have worked with in the past 12 months for our third anniversary, we decided to ask them a few questions. Let’s check out what GFN has to say:

Updates On The Programs And New Developments

There have been no changes to GFN program since we last worked with OIAA last spring, just that we are serving even more people now, thanks in part to the support provided by the incredible ARMY!

Organization’s Fund Allocation Plan

We are still working to support our food banks through this global health crisis, so our priority is to continue providing emergency relief to sustain and expand all food bank operations at this point. This was the same goal we had when we partnered for the OIAA campaign in June 2020. All funds raised right now go to the highest priorities equally across our network.

The Impact Of Pandemic On The Organization’s Operations

The pandemic has created more work for food banks, but fortunately food banks are positioned to respond to crises like this. The logistics of providing food and receiving donations became more challenging as the supply chain continues to be interrupted, which made our food banks’ partnership with The Global FoodBanking Network that much more valuable to them. GFN provided essential emergency grants so food banks could purchase food where necessary to fill gaps and ensure service to their agencies was not interrupted. The biggest challenge continues to be drawing attention to the great work food banks are doing to serve as a foundation of support for their communities, not just in providing food, but in providing health and hygiene products and services like child care, education, and job training.

The Impact Of OIAA Campaign On The Organization

The OIAA campaign was incredibly helpful in bringing to light what The Global FoodBanking Network is doing. GFN is not as widely known as it may seem, and ARMY is an incredibly widespread and enthusiastic network of passionate individuals and we found that ARMY elevated our network in a way that we would not have been able to at such a critical time. We have found this partnership to be invaluable to our mission during this pandemic, we even highlighted OIAA on our 2020 annual report (see page 34 under “Supporter Spotlights”)!

Do You Know BTS?

Many of our staff did know about BTS before the OIAA campaign, but some did not and it was a delight explaining, especially to some of our board members, who BTS was. I believe we have created a few new BTS fans from some demographics that were not previously aware of the band 😊!
