“Remember that there is a person here in Korea, in the city of Seoul, who understands you” — Park Jimin

When ARMY seek comfort and warmth, Jimin’s words are always there. His belief in ARMY’s potential and his readiness to give back the love he has received have motivated the fans to also give back! So, this year, when we asked ARMY about the cause they would like to support for Jimin’s birthday, they chose anti-violence, abuse, and trafficking.

Lack of sustainable economic opportunities leaves an estimated 80% of trafficking survivors at risk of being re-exploited. Supporting survivors through mediums that can provide long-term benefits is extremely important in these situations, so we found an organization which does exactly that.

To celebrate Jimin’s birthday, we decided to organize a five-day flash fundraiser to support Free The Girls.

About Free The Girls

Free the Girls helps women in Africa and Central America, who are survivors of sex trafficking, to reintegrate into their communities by providing them mediums to re-start their lives and attain holistic freedom in employment, health, social well-being, and personal development. FTG’s entrepreneurship program gives these women dignity without dependency.

The organization collects new and gently used bras and sends them to their program partners in Mozambique, El Salvador and Costa Rica where women get to start their own business by selling them in the local markets.

ARMY Impact in Numbers

As soon as we launched the campaign, ARMY made sure to spread the word through the channels available to them and participated in the fundraiser by donating to the cause. We also had a session on social media where ARMY came together and engaged in a discussion through our Q&A about the cause and the organization.

As our amazing fandom supported the org through SNS-shout outs and donations, they also helped make this campaign the most global fundraiser Free The Girls has ever had. Within five days, 948 ARMY in 68 countries came together to raise $21934.

Now, what can these funds achieve?

As per the report received from the organization, the funds will facilitate processing, shipping, and importing of enough inventory to cover all the women in FTG’s Mozambique and El Salvador programs for an entire year! This means those small businesses around the world will have an inventory for the whole of 2021, further ensuring that families have access to food, home, healthcare, safety, and eventually, true freedom.

The organization also shared a beautiful map to show ARMY’s participation in the campaign. Check it out here.

Once again, thank you for supporting Free The Girls! Your efforts made this campaign a huge success.
