Flash Fundraiser for Jungkook’s Birthday: #BreakTheSilenceWithJK by Supporting Programs that Aim to End Gender-Based Violence
For our maknae Jungkook’s birthday fundraiser this year, ARMY wanted to support organizations related to anti-violence, abuse, and trafficking. One In An ARMY invites you to celebrate Jungkook’s special day by showing your support to Usikimye!
About Usikimye
With a name that means “do not be silent” in the Swahili language, Usikimye is an organization based in Nairobi, Kenya that works towards ending the prevalence of sexual and gender-based violence (GBV). Usikimye launches programs to rescue survivors from domestic abuse situations, rape victims, and children abandoned in hostile situations. The organization also provides access to age- and gender-sensitive, high-quality comprehensive responses, catering to every individual’s needs. The organization exists to ensure that women and girls from Kenya are safe and free from violence, exploitation, neglect, and abuse.
Usikimye works to build a societal collective voice against GBV through networking via peer-to-peer exchanges, sharing learning resources to help empower grassroots organizations further, connecting these organizations with relevant experts for mentorship and support, and organizing funding and support for the ones working on gender justice. Usikimye also conducts research to understand the gender justice ecosystem and the needs and approaches of grassroots organizations to collate and share relevant information that can benefit survivors, inform stakeholders, and improve the sector.
How to Contribute to the Campaign
One In An ARMY hopes to help Usikimye in providing therapy sessions for the survivors of sexual- and gender-based violence during the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as conducting skill transfer programs, entrepreneurship bootcamps, and job placements for shelter residents, among their various other initiatives.
