December Flash Fundraiser Report: ARMY Help Goedgedacht Trust Re-Open Their Baby Unit
December brought two reasons to celebrate. The month began with Jin’s birthday and ended with Taehyung’s birthday celebration. As the birthday tradition in 2020 went, we launched a 5-day flash fundraiser for Jin’s birthday to support Goedgedacht Trust.
With their focus on the West Coast region of the Western Cape, South Africa, Goedgedacht Trust runs programmes in disadvantaged rural communities to help in nurturing kids in their early days, prepare them for school and to make sure that they stay in it. The organization aims to end generational poverty in communities by supporting kids in building on individual potential and entering the world as educated, skilled, healthy and confident people.
One In An ARMY launched an online fundraiser to help the organization tackle the challenges borne out of pandemic and continue their work on ground. In one of our exchanges with the team at Goedgedacht Trust, they shared how they had to lay off staff as pandemic hit the organization financially and were really taken aback by the surge in their notifications when the donations started coming in. With the impact made by ARMY, they called Jin’s Flash Fundraiser one of the best Christmas gifts they have ever received. So, what was the impact?
Within 5 Days, 967 ARMY in 40+ countries raised $22,764! The funds helped the organization reopen their baby unit. The baby unit will help provide a safe space to 15 vulnerable babies every day! To honour the occasion that brought such a beautiful day, the organization named the unit as Kim Seok-Jin Baby Unit. BTS ARMY South Africa went to inaugurate the unit and celebrate the day with the organization.
You did that! As ARMY came together, donated to the cause or boosted the campaign on social media or shared it amongst their loved ones, each and every action helped the organization overcome the challenges and build a safe haven for children.
If you are new to OIAA, we are a fan collective that connects BTS fans (ARMY) with grassroot organizations across the globe to help raise funds for different causes. We believe in the power of 1, that is, multiple people donating even 1 dollar cannot make a massive impact on someone’s life. You can take a look at all the reports released from our past campaigns.
